Achieving a Successful Eyelash Lift Every Time: Dream or Reality?

Article written by: Léa Luppi, Eyelash Lifting Trainer, Beauty Collaborator, and Account Manager at BG Beauté

Who hasn’t experienced an unhappy friend after an eyelash lift? You try a new product line and hope to succeed in your treatments? From now on, the success of your eyelash lifts will depend solely on you!

As an eyelash lifting trainer myself, my students' main concern was the difficulty in achieving results that their clients would be fully satisfied with, thereby guaranteeing a successful outcome. This goal, which we all want, is accessible through various methods that you can apply right now. With my three years of experience in eyelash lifting, my advanced training, and sharing knowledge with my colleagues in esthetics, I have managed to find the key elements that ensure a successful eyelash lift every time.

Together, we can perfect this art of enhancing the eyes and make it more beautiful according to clients' demands with our expertise.

5 Essential Elements to Master the Art of Eyelash Lifting

  1. Understanding the Lash
  2. Checking the Lash
  3. Choosing the Right Silicone
  4. Placing the Silicone
  5. Placing the Lashes on the Silicone

Understanding the Lash

Every good technician must understand the lash by analyzing it at each appointment. Lashes can sometimes be thicker and, the next time, much thinner. Our hair is constantly changing, and hormones are one factor that should not be overlooked, as they impact hair growth.

Additionally, a lash with less flexibility can be considered a stiff lash.

It is therefore recommended to increase your processing time because the times suggested by eyelash lifting companies are based on normal lashes, which are easy to stick to silicone pads.

How to easily recognize a lash that needs more processing time with lotions?

  • Stiff to the touch
  • Difficulty sticking the lashes to the silicone pads
  • Add 30 seconds to 1 minute of extra processing time to increase lash flexibility.

Checking the Lash

A little-known tip that will make all the difference is to check the condition of the lash during the application of the perming lotion. Indeed, it’s possible to check the absorption or resistance of the lash and adjust before moving on to the next step. During the last minute of the perming lotion application (lotion 1), use an eyelash tweezer and check the flexibility of the outer lashes by moving them with the tweezer. If they are really flexible, you can proceed to lotion 2 and always keep the same application time for lotion 2 as for lotion 1. If the lashes are still stiff, extend the application time of your perming lotion by another minute.

Choosing the Right Silicone

The fundamental base: the thinner the silicone, the more visible the result will be.

That’s why the "Small" or "S" size cushions are always thinner than other sizes and are mainly used for short lashes. The "Small" size in regular lifting cushions, often called "cloud" due to their shape, gives a very visible L effect. The only clients who can't have the "S" silicone are those with drooping eyelids, as the lashes will tend to touch the eyelids. In these cases, you should use an "M2" cushion or even an "L" cushion, which will provide a lighter effect. The "S" is the silicone I use most often for my clients.

Note: The L curve on natural lashes causes lashes in the telogen phase to tend to tilt sideways. This might lead you to believe that your lift was done poorly if you don’t warn your client beforehand.

My advice: It is crucial to manage your client's expectations and communicate with them to ensure their satisfaction.

Placing the Silicone

It’s essential to place the silicone at the base of the lashes. You must avoid leaving any visible space between the silicone and the lashes. If the silicone is placed too high, the curl will be lost, and the lashes will remain straight after your treatment.

Placing the Lashes on the Silicone

During my treatments, I always use two tools: a Y-shaped brush and a plastic stick with a fine tip, which allows me to work on the lash on the silicone. It is crucial that the lashes are placed perpendicular to the eyelid line and that they don’t cross each other. The Y-shaped brush helps properly adhere the lashes and space them out thanks to its serrated tip. The plastic stick is much more precise and allows me to move or detach the lash as desired.

Since these elements were put in place, all my eyelash lifts have been successfully completed, and it is my duty to share my knowledge in order to elevate our industry.
